KATHMANDU, July 2: The Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) has urged office-bearers and members at all levels who hold positions in political parties or their affiliated organizations to relinquish their roles within the humanitarian organization.

In a public notice issued on Wednesday, the NRCS cited its constitution, which bars individuals actively involved in politics or serving in elected or appointed positions within political parties or government bodies from holding positions in any committee, commission or subcommittee of the society.

The NRCS said members found serving in both capacities without complying with the constitutional provision would face action in accordance with its statutes.

The organization also appealed to the public to report, with evidence, any office-bearer or committee member holding positions in political parties by emailing the NRCS Secretariat.

The NRCS said the measure is aimed at upholding the Red Cross Movement's seven fundamental principles, including neutrality and impartiality. It noted that concerns have repeatedly been raised over political influence within the organization and warned that the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies has the authority to impose sanctions if such issues persist.
