ILAM, March 24: The third edition of the Red Panda Festival will be held in Ilam from April 3 to 6, aiming to promote conservation of the endangered red panda while boosting tourism in the region.
According to festival coordinator Sanam Rai, the event will focus on promoting hiking tourism along the ‘Red Panda Trail’.

The festival will take place in Kalpokhari of Sandakpur Rural Municipality-4. The approximately 40-kilometre trail connects major tourist destinations from Maipokhari to Jaubari, offering opportunities to observe diverse bird species, wildlife including red pandas, and rich biodiversity.
Organisers said key attractions will include the Red Panda Trail trekking experience, jungle safaris, and birdwatching. Visitors will also have the chance to see 18 species of rhododendrons and experience the culture of indigenous communities.
Rai added that more than 60 mountain ranges—including the world’s highest peak, Mt Everest—as well as hundreds of bird species can be viewed from the trail. The organisers aim to attract around 10,000 domestic and international tourists to Sandakpur during the festival.
