The settlements were cleared over the weekend in coordination between the federal government and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC).

The Ministry of Finance on Sunday decided to shift from a monthly salary system to a bi-monthly payment structure for civil servants. The ministry has already written to the Office of the Financial Comptroller General to implement the new system.

The tunnel will begin trial operation from the second week of May, while commercial operation is expected to start from the third week of July.

The surge in complaints comes in the wake of a commitment made by the ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party, which had pledged in its manifesto to “ensure the safety of ordinary citizens’ hard-earned money and return deposits of small savers within 100 days.” 

In those disclosures, it was found that some ministers own land exceeding the ceiling limits set by existing law.
