481 licensed firearms handed over to local administrations in Madhesh

Although records show that 2,531 licensed firearms have been issued to individuals across the province’s eight districts, only 481 have been surrendered so far. A total of 2,050 firearms are yet to be handed over.

JANAKPURDHAM, Feb 27: A total of 481 licensed firearms have been handed over to district administrations in Madhesh Province following a notice issued in view of the upcoming House of Representatives elections.



According to the Madhesh Province Police Office in Janakpurdham, the firearms were collected in response to notices issued by the district administration offices across the province to ensure a free and fair election environment.

Although records show that 2,531 licensed firearms have been issued to individuals across the province’s eight districts, only 481 have been surrendered so far. A total of 2,050 firearms are yet to be handed over.


The local administrations had earlier issued notices directing firearm holders to surrender their weapons to the nearest police unit or district police office.
