All ministers replaced in Gandaki province in a sweeping Cabinet reshuffle

Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey on Wednesday recommended the appointment of new ministers to all eight ministries.

KATHMANDU, April 15: In a sweeping Cabinet reshuffle, all ministers in the Gandaki Province government have been replaced, with eight new faces sworn in on Wednesday. The ruling coalition partners, the Nepali Congress (NC) and the CPN-UML, removed all their previous ministers and sent in a new team.



Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey on Wednesday recommended the appointment of new ministers to all eight ministries. Acting on the recommendation, Province Chief Dilliraj Bhatta appointed the new ministers. They took the oath of office and secrecy from Province Chief Bhatta at a ceremony held at the Nepal Tourism Board office on Wednesday afternoon.

The reshuffle follows an agreement between Chief Minister Pandey, who is also the parliamentary party leader of the NC, and CPN-UML parliamentary party leader Khaga Raj Adhikari.


Among the newly appointed ministers, four are from the NC. Jit Bahadur Sherchan has been assigned the Ministry of Economic Affairs, while Nanda Prasad Neupane will lead the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Drinking Water. Similarly, Rekha Gurung has been appointed Minister for Social Development, Youth and Sports, and Namdu Gurung will take charge of the Ministry of Forests and Environment.


Likewise, four ministers from the UML have joined the government. Gobinda Bahadur Nepali has been appointed Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development and Transport Management, while Yashoda Rimal will lead the Ministry of Industry and Tourism. In addition, Bhim Bahadur Karki has been assigned the Ministry of Agriculture, Land Management and Cooperatives, and Laxman Bahadur Pandey will head the Ministry of Health.


According to the secretariat of Chief Minister Pandey, the Gandaki Province government is now complete following the new appointments.
