KATHMANDU, Jan 7: A total of 599 Nepal Police personnel have faced departmental action for posting unprofessional and inappropriate content on social media, Nepal Police Headquarters said on Wednesday.
According to the police, the actions were taken for violating the organization’s social media usage policy, including making derogatory comments against the institution and misusing police uniforms on platforms such as Facebook, X and TikTok.

The disciplinary measures cover the period from fiscal year 2020/21 to the present. Those punished range from Deputy Inspector General (DIG) to office assistants, reflecting enforcement across all ranks.
Among those facing action are one DIG, one Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), four Superintendents of Police (SPs), and five Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs). The list also includes 11 Senior Sub-Inspectors, 24 Sub-Inspectors, 51 Assistant Sub-Inspectors, seven Senior Constables and 35 Constables.
Additionally, 76 Assistant Constables, 358 Police Constables and two office assistants have also been subjected to departmental action.
Police said the penalties range from formal warnings to promotion freezes, depending on the severity of the violation.
