Govt decides to form task force to draft discussion paper on constitution amendment

KATHMANDU, March 30: The government has decided to form a task force to prepare a discussion paper on amending the constitution.



The decision was made at the cabinet meeting held on Monday, which stated that the task force will be led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s political advisor and will include representatives from all political parties represented in parliament.

The government said the move follows the agenda outlined in the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) manifesto to advance constitutional amendments. Minister of Education Sasmit Pokharel, emphasized that amendments require consensus among all parties.


While announcing the cabinet decision, Minister Pokharel, who is also the government’s spokesperson, said, “The task force, chaired by the political advisor, will include representatives from all parliamentary parties. The discussion paper will be prepared based on national consensus for constitutional amendment.”
