KATHMANDU, Nov 17: Giving a pace to the termination of boondoggles, the government has further cut down the wasteful projects, especially related to road construction, which were left idle for years.

Issuing a notice today, the Road Division Office, Kathmandu mentioned that contracts of 25 sick and stalled projects were terminated. The contracts of terminated projects were signed from the fiscal year 2067/68 BS to 2079/80.

Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Physical Infrastructure, Kul Man Ghising, had directed the subordinate bodies to end the construction agreements of sick projects in order to end the trend of leaving the projects idle.

Following Minister Ghising's directive, offices under the Department of Roads forwarded the process to terminate the contract of the roadway boondoggles. On October 28, the Road Division Office, Kathmandu had sought a clarification from the concerned 25 contractors.

Office Chief Subodh Devkota said the contracts of the projects were finally ended in accordance with the Public Procurement Act after the clarifications furnished by the contractors were not satisfactory.

The contractors were directed to present at the office within 15 days.

Irrespective of the frequent prodding to complete the constructions, the contractors showed sheer ignorance to give a pace, finally prompting the termination of the assignments.
