KATHMANDU, April 10: The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has directed hospitals to continue operating outpatient department (OPD) services on Sundays, depending on workload and available human resources.
In a statement issued on Friday, the MoHP said OPD services should be managed based on patient flow and staffing conditions to ensure continuity and effectiveness of healthcare delivery.

MoHP Spokesperson Dr Samir Kumar Adhikari said the decision aligns with the Cabinet’s arrangement to implement two consecutive public holidays on Saturdays and Sundays while ensuring uninterrupted health services.
The statement also said employees will be granted two days of leave per week, excluding Saturday, and compensatory leave will be provided where regular leave is not possible.
Similarly, the MoHP has instructed provincial health authorities to implement the same arrangement in hospitals across all seven provinces.
The directive aims to balance the new public holiday system with the need to maintain continuous healthcare services.
