KATHMANDU, March 28: The Nepali Congress (NC) Deuba faction has decided to constitutionally, legally, and politically protest the arrest of former Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.
In a meeting held in the capital on Saturday, leaders of the Deuba faction concluded that the government has taken political revenge against CPN-UML Chairman Oli and NC leader Lekhak.

In a statement issued in the capacity of Acting Party President Purna Bahadur Khadka, party leaders and workers were urged to be prepared to face any political developments in the coming days. The statement reads, “Political revenge was taken in a malicious manner immediately after the formation of the government.”
The arrest of the former Prime Minister and Home Minister, carried out in the name of implementing the Gen Z Probe Commission report without completing legal procedures, has been described as a step against the principles of the rule of law. The Deuba faction concluded that it has remained silent regarding the destruction on September 9, while focusing only on the events of September 8.
However, the NC establishment faction led by Gagan Thapa stated that, while maintaining neutrality in the current political context, it will not launch any protest programs even in the event of Lekhak’s arrest. The NC statement also demanded that the public be informed about who was responsible for the vandalism and arson on September 9, 2025.
