NEPSE inches up slightly as trade volume significantly drops

KATHMANDU, Feb 23: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) showed a modest rise on Monday, with the index gaining 2.41 points to close at 2,616.97, while trading volume contracted significantly.



Trading turnover dropped from Rs 6.69 billion on Sunday to Rs 5.13 billion on Monday. Despite intraday volatility, six sub-sectors showed gains, contributing to the slight uptick in the overall index.

Sub-sectors showing gains included commercial banks, development banks, finance companies, investment firms, life insurance, and others. Development banks led the increase with a 0.90% gain. Conversely, seven sub-sectors declined, with mutual funds dropping the most at 0.41%.


On a company level, 140 stocks recorded losses while 113 saw price gains, and 9 remained unchanged. Salpa Development Bank’s shares rose the most at 9.99%, followed by Reliance Spinning Mills at 9.28%.


Among the most actively traded stocks, Aankhukhola Hydropower led with Rs 362 million in transactions, followed by Ridi Power at Rs 321.9 million and SY Panel Company at Rs 287.8 million.
