KATHMANDU, Nov 11: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has sent a letter to the Election Commission (EC) requesting a review of the deadline for voter registration.
In a letter sent on Monday, Prime Minister Karki urged the EC to reconsider the current timeframe for collecting voter details ahead of the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) elections scheduled for March 5, 2026. The existing deadline for voter registration is set for November 16, 2025.

"If it appears that the ongoing voter registration process cannot be completed within the stipulated period, the commission may review the deadline (i.e. November 16, 2025)," the letter states.
The letter further suggests that the EC explore the possibility of using data from the National ID and Civil Registration Department’s system to make the registration process faster, smoother and more efficient through necessary technical and legal arrangements.
It also mentions growing complaints about delays due to manpower shortages, difficulties in selecting polling centers during pre-enrollment, technical issues even after entering citizenship numbers, and challenges faced by families of the Gen Z movement’s martyrs and the injured, as well as persons with disabilities.
In light of these concerns, the prime minister has requested the Election Commission to review the voter registration deadline.
