Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project to resume partial operation, set to generate 37 MW

The project will initially generate 37 MW of electricity. The team worked up to 18 hours a day to bring the project back into operation earlier than planned.

KATHMANDU, Dec 4:  The 111-MW Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project (RHP), which had been shut down since the flooding of July 8, is set to resume partial operation from Thursday evening.



According to RHP Chief Rajaram Jyakha, the project will initially generate 37 MW of electricity. He said the team worked up to 18 hours a day to bring the project back into operation earlier than planned.

“We had aimed to resume partial operation by mid-January, but by working 18 hours daily, we managed to reach this stage ahead of schedule,” Jyakha said, “We cleared the buried headworks, diverted water from the tailrace, and delivered water to the machine at midnight on Tuesday. After successful testing, we will begin electricity generation this evening.”


The flood had damaged both the headworks and tailrace, and sand had entered the machines. The project will take more time to return to full capacity. The total damage is estimated at around Rs 3 billion.
