JANAKPUR, Jan 19: Senior leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Balendra Shah (Balen), has said his party is firmly committed to strengthening federalism, rejecting allegations by political opponents that the RSP is anti-federalist.
Addressing a party gathering in Janakpur on Monday, Shah said the RSP aims to empower provinces so that they no longer have to go to Kathmandu to demand their rights. “The chief administrative authority of Janakpur Metropolitan City has to seek approval from Kathmandu even for basic administrative changes. One should go to Kathmandu to visit, not to beg for rights,” he said. “The role of the province is not to connect water taps at the ward level, but to connect local governments. This system needs to change.”

He said the RSP would work to make provinces strong and prosperous.
Shah also pledged to develop Janakpur into a wedding destination and a sports hub. “The place where the wedding of Ram and Janaki took place can become a major wedding destination. When Janakpur Bolts won the NPL, the entire Madhes was filled with joy. The RSP will now work to bring similar enthusiasm through development in Madhes,” he said.
Calling on voters to support the party, Shah urged them to vote for the bell election symbol, saying the appeal was not because he was a prime ministerial aspirant but because the RSP had capable and honest individuals within its ranks.
