KATHMANDU, Jan 14: Shova Gyawali has been appointed Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Nepal Republic Media Limited. She was selected by the Board following the company’s fifth Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in the capital on Wednesday.
The AGM elected Gyawali, Bal Krishna Adhikari, Madan Aryal and Shridhar Pokharel as members of the Board of Directors. Rom Nath Ghimire, whose term was still ongoing, continued on the five-member Board. Immediately after the AGM, the Board convened and formally appointed Gyawali as chairperson.
Outgoing Chairperson Binod Raj Gyawali said that a leadership transition was necessary in a changing context and expressed confidence that the new leadership would successfully take the institution forward.

The outgoing chairperson, who has contributed more than four decades to the media industry, said citizens must be informed through transparency, impartiality, effectiveness and ideas. He expressed confidence that the media house has remained faithful to this objective and would continue to uphold it in the future.
Stating that it had always been his aspiration to see the media lead in the public interest, he said the institution is committed to moving forward by making ethics, transparency and quality journalism the foundation of its work.
After handing over responsibilities to the new leadership, the directors expressed their gratitude to the outgoing chairperson by honouring him with a ceremonial shawl and garland. Shareholders and board members present paid high tribute as he formally transferred the chairpersonship and encouraged the new leadership to move ahead.
Recalling the early days of establishing NRM after leaving his previous organisation, the outgoing chairperson said operations had begun from a five-star hotel due to the lack of office space, and that colleagues were paid from the very first day. He noted that despite facing multiple challenges in recent years— including the earthquake, blockade, COVID-19 pandemic and the Gen Z movement—the institution remained active and resilient, guided by a strong sense of national responsibility.
The newly elected chairperson expressed confidence that meaningful achievements could only be realised through collective effort and said she remained optimistic about the future. Newly-elected Chairperson Gyawali said Nepal Republic Media, originally established in 2008 and restructured as a public media institution in 2021, has reached a significant milestone with the convening of its fifth AGM. She said the occasion reflects not only institutional continuity but also a shared commitment to ethical journalism, democratic values and national responsibility.
Gyawali also said she would not betray the trust placed in her, adding that NRM is not merely an institution but a public entity with a responsibility towards society.
She said the expectations of the public and the national interest would remain at the centre of the organisation’s leadership and direction. She pledged to carry out her responsibilities with humility, integrity and full commitment, and to further strengthen the institution’s credibility.
