KATHMANDU, Dec 18: Shankar Pokhrel, backed by the faction led by KP Sharma Oli, has been elected general secretary of the CPN-UML from its 11th General Convention.

Pokhrel defeated Surendra Prasad Pandey of the Ishwar Pokhrel faction to secure the post. According to the final vote count, Pokhrel received 1,228 votes, while Pandey garnered 999.
Meanwhile, KP Sharma Oli was re-elected as chair of the party for the third term.
