UML is immortal, democracy is alive: Chair Oli

CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli asserted that the party is resilient and democracy remains alive, condemning the September 8-9 protests as an attack on the constitution and the country’s democratic institutions.

KATHMANDU, Dec 13: CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has declared that the party is immortal and democracy is alive. 



Speaking at the inauguration of the party’s 11th National Convention, Oli emphasized the vitality of both the UML and democratic institutions to elaborate that the September 8 and 9 protest was targeted towards the party and ending democratic system in the country.

He noted that the event was attended not only by party members but by the general public as well. Recalling the Gen-Z protests three months ago, Oli described the country as having been engulfed in turmoil, likening it to a war zone.


He described the protests as a severe attack on the constitution, democracy and its foundational institutions including political parties. Oli also highlighted attempts to create a narrative that old parties and their leaders were finished following the protests.
