KATHMANDU, Oct 2: Vijaya Dashami, the main day of the Durga festival, is being celebrated today by receiving red tika, a symbol of good fortune, and jamara, a symbol of prosperity, from the hands of elders. The tika is applied using water from the sacred kalash (vessel) established on Ghatasthapana.

Observed on Ashwin Shukla Dashami, Vijaya Dashami is marked with joy as people receive tika and jamara as blessings of Goddess Durga from their elders.
The Nepal Calendar Determination Committee has announced 11:53 AM today, Ashwin 16, as the most auspicious time to receive tika in Nepal.
