Baneshwar tense over govt failure to arrange sufficient buses

KATHMANDU, April 29: Tension flared up at New Baneshwar after the government failed to keep its promises to arrange 500 buses to ferry common people going back home from the Kathmandu Valley on Wednesday.

The government had promised to arrange 500 buses to transport people wishing to go back home while there were only 200 buses available in New Baneshwar today.


In coordination with the private transport entrepreneurs, the government said it would arrange 500 buses to ferry common people to Itahari in the east, Butwal in the west . The common people including students who were lining up turned into fury after only 200 buses showed up.

Scores of people, who were queuing up for the vehicles, are now are shouting slogans against the government. Due to the demonstration staged by the irate people, transportation between Maitighar to Koteshwar has been disrupted.

Police have used force to take the situation under control after the agitaing people started hurling stones and bricks at the police.
