Upadhaya is leading the Nepali delegation in the 5th Global Review of Aid for Trade held at the WTO from 30 June to July 2.
The duo discussed the situation of Nepal, particularly the need to restore and revive economy and trade, in the aftermath of the earthquake, according to a press release issued on Thursday.
According to the release, Upadhaya also underlined the need for full implementation of the past decisions, including Bali ministerial decisions, pertaining to the trade issues of least developed countreis (LDCs), namely duty free quota free market access for LDCs' products, preferential market access to services and services suppliers from LDCs, simplified, transparent and predictable rules of origin, among others.Similarly, Azevedo appreciated the role played by Nepal in the WTO as an LDC member, and assured that he would do the needful to mainstream LDCs' agenda in the ongoing post-work program in the run-up to the 10th Ministerial Conference to be held in Nairobi in December this year.
Secretary Upadhaya participated as a panelist in two important sessions and provided Nepal's perspective in handling large scale disaster from trade standpoint, and ways and means of lowering the cost of trade transaction by infusing technology and innovation in the small and medium enterprises and raising their productivity, among others, and linking them to the global value chains, the release added.
