Dashain Bazaar at DECC

KATHMANDU, Oct 11: As Dashain Bazar has brought under a single roof almost all varieties of commodities that Dashain shopper go after, the fair organized by the DECC drew more than three thousand visitors on the second day of the event on Thursday.



Most shoppers Republica spoke to during their shopping spree on the day said they were attracted to the fair as it made Dashain shopping easier. They said the fair has wide varieties of items on offer and the prices were reasonable too. [break]



Some 70 exhibitors, including those from Pakistan and Bangladesh, have laid out a wide variety of items ranging from foot wears, fashion wears, readymade garments to handicrafts, furniture and food products. That is not all. Traders are even selling souvenirs for Nawa Durga Puja.



Leather products, cosmetics, herbal products, and stalls of food and beverage manufacturers attracted large volume of visitors.



“The response from the visitors has been really good,” said Chitra Paudel, coordinator of the event. He said that goods sold in Dashain Bazar are of high quality and prices are affordable as well.



Asmita Khanal, proprietor of Real Pashmina Export at Thamel, said she has been part of the Dashain Bazaar every year and it has helped her to promote her products and build relations with buyers.



“We are offering consumers discounts of up to fifty percent on each pashmina items such as sweater, shawl and muffler, among others,” Khanal stated.

At the Bazaar, consumers can buy pashmina products at prices ranging from Rs 300 to Rs 5,000.



“Dashain Bazar gives us an opportunity to understand the Nepali market and to build relations with local entrepreneurs,” said Syed Aijaz Ali, an exhibitor from Pakistan.



As Nepali customers show special liking to Pakistani kurta-suruwal, saris and other readymade garments, Ali said he expects to do a business of Rs 300,000 during the fair. “Sales have already crossed Rs 50,000 by the end of second day. And the crowd turnout is expected to grow,” he smiled.



Pakistani saris are available in the range of Rs 3,000 to Rs 8,000, tops between Rs 1,000 to Rs 4,000, and kurta-suruwal for Rs 1,500 to Rs 5, 000.



On showcase are locally manufactured accessories such as bangles, bracelet, beads, ear-ring and ring, among others.



“People also shop such accessories during Dashain. We hope to enjoy good business also because accessories being sold here are priced cheaper than the market,” said Neera Vaidya, an accessory exhibitor. She said prices of accessories at her stall start from Rs 25 and can go up to Rs 8,000.



She expects to sell Rs 100,000 worth of bangles, rings and other accessories.
