Several cadres holding party flags were seen visiting door-to-door and singing songs with cultural as well as political connotations. [break]
Those staging the cultural performance are cadres of Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist), CPN (ML) and Rastriya Janamorcha while UCPN (Maoist) and Nepali Congress have said that they decided not to stage such performance in the district.
However, separate groups of Maoist-affiliated students, artistes and Maoist youth wing the Young Communist League cadres have already started staging Deusi-Bhailo in Dang.
"Our objective is to spread a message of goodwill among the people while it can also be an opportunity for us to get some financial support for the party," said Laxman Acharya, district chairman of UML.
Rastriya Janamorcha, which is the only party to officially oppose the Constituent Assembly´s decision to restructure the country into a federal model, has said that the party´s Deusi-Bhailo groups will sing anti-federal songs.
Meanwhile, the district administration office in Dang has issued a notice instructing such groups to perform their cultural shows without disrupting regular activities of the people.
"If anyone is found extorting money by obstructing vehicular movement along the highways, roads or hindering other regular activities in the name of performing Deusi-Bhailo, the local administration will take them into control and take action against them," said Chief District Officer, Rishi Ram Dhakal. The local administration has instructed the police accordingly, he said.
