Officials at Kathmandu District Administration Office said Dhamala along with Ram Shubhak Mahato (also known as Pradeep), Manoj Mahato (also known as Binayak), and Birendra Kumar Mahato, have been sent to Dillibazar Prison. T[break] he accused would be kept in the jail until a verdict on arms and ammunition case filed against them is given.
A lawyer advocating on behalf of the accused, Madhav Banskota, said they would appeal against the decision to keep them in jail at the Appellate Court, Patan, on Sunday.
Senior lawyers including Shambhu Thapa, Sher Bahadur KC, Updendra Keshari Neupane, Dr Bhimarjun Acharya, Indra Kharel, Chandra Kanta Gyawali and Rishi Ram Ghimire had advocated on Dhamala´s behalf since Thursday.
Journalists were barred from talking to Dhamala and other accused after the Kathmandu District Administration Office passed the verdict to put them in jail.
As the police escorted him to Dillibazar Prison from Kathmandu District Administration Office premises, Dhamala could be heard addressing media persons: "My journalist colleagues, it is time to raise arms. Here is no justice."
Dhamala, who is president of the Reporterss´ Club, Nepal, was arrested on February 4 over alleged links with little-known armed outfit Ranabir Sena. The group admitted responsibility for three separate bomb blasts in Kathmandu, besides extorting heavy amounts from businessmen based in Kathmandu and other parts of the country.
Senior police officials at Metropolitan Police Range Office, Kathmandu, said they are also preparing to file attempt to murder and extortion cases against Dhamala and three others in the District Court, Kathmandu.
