Forest encroachment control strategy implemented in Kanchanpur

KANCHANPUR, Sept 10: The Forest Encroachment Control Strategy- 2068 BS has been formulated in Kanchanpur for stopping increasing forest destruction.



Works of updating of statistics including mapping of the encroached area, collection of records, and evaluation has been started under the strategy. [break]



It was implemented after areas of forest land was encroached for agricultural land, hospital, free Kamaiya, shrines, landless, parties, school and roads.



Works of taking records of the encroached land has been started under a task force under the convenorship of the CDO for forest encroachment control, said Kanchanpur Forest Office Chief, Lal Narayan Singh.



The forest land cannot be used as per the strategy in areas other than for projects specified by the government, he said. The settlements of old forest will also be removed, he said.



Some 5,000 hectares of land has been encroached in the district.



As per international standards, there should be 40 percent forest land of the total for environment protection.In Nepal, there is forest now in 39.6 percent of land, said Chief Singh.
