This was informed after a meeting between the officials of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and Bhairahawa chapter of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry held in Bhairahawa on Friday.
According to the secretary of the ministry, Sushil Ghimire, the work will start immediately after they receive funds from the ADB.
During the meeting, Ghimire shared that the upgrading of the airport will help boost tourism in Lumbini.
The chairman of the Regional International Airport Construction Project Murari Bhandari said that tender bids for the work will be solicited in the second week of June.
The total cost for upgrading the airport has been estimated at US$ 91 million.
