The decision was published in the gazette on Wednesday.[break]
“The Home Ministry has activated the ESA though the gazette following our recommendation on the back of prolonging strike being enforced by Nepal LPG Industries Association (NLPGIA) which is threatening to bring the gas distribution to a grinding halt from today (Wednesday),” Lal Mani Joshi, secretary at the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies (MoCS) told Republica.
The ESA prohibits the strikes on essential sectors such as hospital, telephone, electricity, transport and drinking water by providing power to the law enforcement officials to use force, if neccessary, to smoothen the functioning of these sectors.
