KATHMANDU, Feb 24: In a show of support for one of the country’s most celebrated football stars, the Nepali Congress (NC) has announced a financial contribution of Rs 500,000 for the treatment of national women’s football team captain Sabitra Bhandari, popularly known as ‘Samba’.
NC Vice-President Bishwa Prakash Sharma said he informed Pankaj Bikram Nembang, president of the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), over the phone that the party would extend the support to the player’s treatment fund on behalf of the NC.

Sharing the message publicly on X, Sharma wrote, “I have informed the ANFA president over the phone that the Congress will contribute Rs 500,000 to the player’s treatment fund. It is necessary for all of us to stand by the renowned footballer ‘Sambha,’ who has made a significant contribution to enhancing the country’s prestige. I wish her a speedy recovery.”
On Monday, Samba appealed to supporters and well-wishers for financial assistance to cover the costs of treating her serious knee injury — a setback that has drawn concern and solidarity from across the sporting community.
