KJWP claims possessing arms

DHARAN, Nov 28: Kirat Janabadi Workers´ Party (KJWP), a little known armed outfit operating in the eastern hill districts, has claimed that it has kept the weapons its cadres had looted from Nepal Police after attacking police posts in Khotang district two years ago.



Leaders of the group that is led by Bidrohi Biwas Kirati told reporters in Dharan on Saturday that the group has weapons at its disposal.



"We were the ones who stormed the police posts and the weapons that we looted from there are still safe with us," said Hangchha Kirati, joint secretary of the outfit.



An unidentified group had looted weapons from the police posts at Chisapani, Phaktang and Devisthan on January 21, 2008. Earlier, the group had been refuting the allegations of the attack.



The group looted seven .303 rifles, two Chinese pistols, 14 pistol bullets, 350 rifle bullets, one communication set of police and a CDMA telephone set in the attack.



He also claimed that the group possesses other weapons as well as some of the Maoists joined the group along with weapons after defecting from the UCPN (Maoist). However, he didn´t disclose the number of weapons possessed by the group.
