Law had to be made to stop increasing cases of VAW: Home Minister Khand

KATHMANDU, JULY 7: Today’s meeting of the National Assembly has unanimously approved the proposal to consider the Acid and Other Harmful Chemicals (Regulation) Bill 2079 BS.



In the meeting, Home Minister Bal Krishna Khan presented the proposal to consider the bill received with a message from the House of Representatives. Chairman of the National Assembly, Ganesh Prasad Timilsina announced that the proposal was unanimously approved. Regarding the bill, Home Minister Khand said that it was necessary to take action and regulate violence against women (VAW) and children.

"The purpose of this Act is to control the production, export, import, use and displacement of such substances,” he said.


He said that the bill was drafted to make it impossible for just anyone to store, buy and sell harmful chemicals and said that the distortion is the result of easy access. In the meeting, the lawmakers were of the view that this act should be enacted and implemented soon to stop activities like acid attack on women.
