Local polls important to institutionalize democracy: Jhalanath Khanal

ILAM, May 13: Former Prime Minister and senior leader of CPN (Unified Socialist), Jhalanath Khanal  has said that the second local level elections would play an important role in institutionalizing democracy and republic He said that the country would move forward on the journey of socialism while protecting democracy and republic through this election.

ILAM, May 13: Former Prime Minister and senior leader of CPN (Unified Socialist), Jhalanath Khanal  has said that the second local level elections would play an important role in institutionalizing democracy and republic He said that the country would move forward on the journey of socialism while protecting democracy and republic through this election.



Talking to media persons after casting his vote at a voting center at Suryodaya Municipality-9, Ramphok, in his home district of Ilam, Khanal said that the local government would help solve all the problems of the citizens.

"Local governments can be very effective in the basic needs of the people like agriculture, infrastructure, education, health and drinking water," he said. "Democracy and the republic were in danger because of the leadership elected in the first local elections. I believe that the leadership that will come after the second local elections will protect the constitution and the country," he said.
