The bride´s relatives were infuriated and made the groom repay the dowry amount of Rs 13,000 rupees they had earlier paid to the groom´s family.
The marriage rituals were already halfway when Chulhai demanded the groom to show him all the jewelries they had brought for his daughter. The groom´s family had brought silver jewelry citing their poor financial condition. But the bride´s family was not satisfied with the explanation.
To appease the bride´s father, Ruplala Sah, the groom´s father, had proposed that he would buy the gold jewelry from nearby market in Katahariya. But the bride´s relatives were unrelenting.
Marriage invitees had to spend the night without food after the marriage ceremony was cancelled.
Assistant Sub Inspector of Police, Pralhad Keshari, said the groom had to return without the bride. The bride´s side, which had arrived in the village in two rented vehicles, said that had spent over Rs 25,000 for the marriage ceremony.
