SC upholds TU move to fix fees for medical degrees


The Supreme Court has upheld the decision of the Tribhuvan University (TU) to fix Rs 2.2 million as the fee for the MD (Medicine Doctor), MS (Master of Surgery) and MDS (Master of Dental Surgery) courses in TU-affiliated medical colleges. Earlier, two medical institutes had challenged the TU executive council's decision to this regard given on April 6. In response the court cited that it was not seen as necessary to give continuity to the previous interim orders. 



Diarrhea epidemic in west Dang comes under control


A diarrhea epidemic which broke out in various parts of Shantinagar Rural Municipality- 3 and 4 in western Dang have come under control. More than 1,200 people from Patetakura and Akali were affected by the disease till Sunday.  Precaution has been taken to stop the possible spread of the disease, including barring locals from drinking water of the Maili River.

Govt increases fines for overcrowded public vehicles


The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division has increased fine for public vehicles if they are found to be hoarding passengers against its capacities in Kathmandu Valley.  Those breaking the law will be fined Rs. 1,000 against existing fine of Rs. 500. 


IFC, NRB launch guidelines to minimize financial risks


IFC and Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) launched the country’s first Environmental and Social Risk Management (ESRM) guidelines for the financial sector. The guidelines will help financial institutions evaluate the environment and social (E&S) risks that could arise from transactions with their clients, and take measures to mitigate them.


Trump threatens another shutdown as budget battle heats up


President Donald Trump has warned Congress that he will never sign another foot-tall, $1 trillion-plus government-wide spending bill like the one he did in March. A government shutdown just a month before Election Day, Nov. 6, as Republicans and Democrats fight for control of the House and possibly the Senate. Trump is agitating for more money for his long-promised border wall with Mexico. So far, he has been frustrated by limited success on that front.


Messi: I'd give up Barca title for World Cup glory


Argentina captain Lionel Messi said he would swap a Barcelona title for a trophy with the national team ahead of the World Cup in Russia. Messi has enjoyed a trophy-laden career at Barca, however, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner is still searching for his first major senior title with Argentina. "Winning a title with Argentina would be something unique."
