Nat'l park nabs 14 wildlife traders including Chepang

CHITWAN, Oct 5: The Chitwan National Park (CNP) has arrested 14 people including kingpin Buddhi Bahadur Chepang on the charge of trading in rhinos´ horns.



Chepang was on the run after he was sentenced to jail for 15 years for his involvement in illegal trade of rhinos´ horns. [break]



The arrestees include racketeers from rhino poachers to those involved in trading-in rhinos´ horns at the national and international level.



The smugglers were arrested while they were making plans to enter the national park with an intention of poaching rhinos, said an official at the CNP.



These illegal traders fell into the net under the Operation Unicorn launched by the CNP from September 12 until October 1.



Fugitive Chepang, against whom as many as nine cases have already been filed on the charge of trading in wildlife´s body parts, fell into the police net on September 13 in Pokhara.



The CNP had taken the help of Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police to nab Chepang.
