NC president Koirala rules out democratic alliance

BIRATNAGAR, March 24: Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala ruled out the necessity of the democratic alliance despite left-polarization in the county.



He expressed commitment to unite for the cause of democracy if a totalitarian constitution was promulgated adding that its direct effect and torture will be on media sector. [break]



Speaking at a press meet organized by the party-affiliated journalists´ union on Thursday, the NC chief reiterated that the seven-point deal signed between the CPN (UML) and UCPN (Maoist) should be scrapped at the earliest.



He said the dialogue for consensus with the UML and Maoists can be started from the bottom-level regarding the issue of power sharing and other once the deal was scrapped.



He said the NC´s first priority is timely promulgation of the constitution after PLA combatants´ integration and rehabilitation.



In a separate context, NC President Koirala expressed commitment to move ahead in the party by nominating the office bearers as the proposals floated in the past and claimed there was no factionalism in the party.
