Nepal returns home today, loses both matches against Scotland

KATHMANDU, Aug 3: Nepali cricket is set to return home on Monday after losing both matches of the ICC World Cricket League Championship against Scotland.

After losing the first match by three runs in a thrilling encounter, Nepal team faced nine-wicket defeat in its second match (50-over List A) of the championship against Scotland played at the Cambusdoon New Ground in Ayr. The second match was played for two days (Friday and Saturday) due to incessant rain.Although, Nepal scored 168 runs, Scotland got revised target of 110 runs in 22 overs on D/L method. Scotland completed the run chase in 13.5 overs losing one wicket as Matthew Cross remained not out on 51 runs off 37 balls and opener George Munsey scored 40 off 41 balls.

Sompal Kami bagged the only wicket of Scotland.

On the first day, winning the toss Scotland decided to bowl first and restricted visiting Nepal to 167 in 49.1 overs. Nepal made disappointing start losing four early wickets within 11 overs. Opener Mahesh Chhetri (3), Anil Mandal (9), Gyanendra Malla (16) and skipper Paras Khadka (10) were out cheaply.

However, Sharad Vesawkar (30 off 66), the highest scorer for Nepal, added 33 runs for the fifth wickets with Pradeep Airee (16), to anchor Nepal innings. But Pradeep was caught by Scottish wicket-keeper Matthew Cross off Michael Leask, who also sent Avina karn (17 off 12) to pavillion.

Sharad also added 20 runs with Prithu Baskota (16) before being caught in the 30.3 overs by Mathew off Alasdair Evans. Mathew claimed highest three wickets for Scotland.

Basant Regmi (19) and Avinash (17), Sompal Kami (7) and Shakti Gauchan (not out 6) contributed for Nepal.

Alasdair claimed three, while Safyaan Sharif, Gavin MainMichael Leask claimed two wickets each and Mark took one wicket for Scotland.

Earlier, Nepal had crashed out of the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers held in Ireland and Scotland after facing four consecutive defeats in Group A. Nepal won the only match and one match was abandoned due to rain.
