KATHMANDU, March 13: Nepali Embassy in Japan has said that there is no report of casualty involving Nepali nationals in the devastating earthquake and subsequent Tsunami that rocked northeast Japan on Friday.

A press statement issued by the embassy brushed aside media reports that claimed several Nepali nationals were missing and attributed the misinformation to lack of communication from the Tsunami devastated Phukusima and Miyagi provinces. [break]

"Nepali embassy is in constant touch with the emergency cells operated by Japan´s foreign ministry and there have been no reports of casualty involving Nepalis so far," said the statement.

The embassy said that Nepali nationals said to be missing after the catastrophic Tsunami have started coming into its contact.

"The Tsunami swept away Saino restaurant in the Sendai city of Miyagi province. But it is learnt that the proprietor of the restaurant Ramesh Dewan and his family are safe," he said. Likewise, restaurant entrepreneur in Kesanu city of Miyagi province Soban Tulachan and his spouse Meena have also come in contact with the embassy. "It is learnt that his restaurant has been swept away by the Tsunami," the statement said.

The press statement also stated that most of the students said to be missing from Ibaraki province and Sendai city have come into the embassy´s contact.

The embassy said that the process of gathering information from the Tsunami devastated areas have been expedited and that they are prepared to carry out on-the-spot rescue if necessary. According to a census conducted in 2009, a total 15,255 Nepalis are in Japan. Over 200 Nepalis are believed to be living in Tsunami affected Miyagi province.
