Xi´an holds the distinction of being the place from where Nepal and China had entered diplomatic relations in the seventh century. A Nepali diplomat had submitted his credentials at a Chinese palace in this city. Xi´an was the capital of China then. History further says that a monk from this city had visited Nepal to study Buddhism. He had then translated books on Buddhism into Chinese, making the city as the hub of Buddhism in China. Thousands of Buddhists from across the world visit the city.
“The visit remained important both historically and emotionally,” Tanka Karki, Nepali ambassador to China, told myrepublica.com over phone.
Earlier on Sunday morning, the prime minister visited Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple in Lhasa. He also paid a short visit to Syamu Kapu, an oldest Nepali handicraft shop at Barkore Street.
