KATHMANDU, June 24: Keeping in view the security sensitivity of VIPs and delegates attending the International Conference on Nepal's Reconstruction, the Ministry of Home Affairs has beefed up security arrangements in the Kathmandu Valley.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, more than 10,000 security personnel, including 5,900 Nepal Police personnel will be mobilized for security at the airport, hotel where the VIP guests would be accommodated, routes of convoy, program venue and possible sites the VVIPs would visit. Security personnel from the Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force will be mobilized under a command post set up at the home ministry under the leadership of Joint Secretary Laxmi Dhakal.A team led by DIG Hemanta Bahadur Pal of Nepal Police has said that there is no serious security threat to VIPs attending the conference. "But we have made extra security arrangements for ministers from China and India for fear of possible protest against disputes surrounding Lipulekh pass and free Tibet movement in Nepal," DIG Pal said.

An integrated mobilization of Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and the National Investigation Department would take place as per the plan to provide security to the international guests. A separate help desk has been set up to carry out custom clearance of the VIPs and others guests visiting Nepal.
