"Such calls are embarrassing for our doctors, especially, for the lady doctors who have begun to cut the phone when they hear male voice," said Shyam Oli, an employee at Hello Health. He said that such people ask erotic questions to female doctors and they make frequent calls as it is free of cost.
The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) started 24 hour hotline service to help ailing people get free medical services some six months ago. People do not have to pay for the call as the ministry has arranged a toll free number. The ministry has given additional task to the doctors of Patan Hospital, which has already been providing telemedicine services.
Dr Gyan Kayastha, chief of Tele medicine Center at Hospital, said that the service has been providing huge relief to ailing patients and their relatives as consultant doctors and experts provide medical advices. He said that even doctors and other health workers serving in remote parts of the country have been getting huge relief from the service. "They ask the consultant about the problems they do not know," said Dr Kayastha, adding, "Our consultant doctors look at the patient´s medical history and provide suggestion." He said that the service has boosted the confidence of the health workers. Dr Kayastha claims that several lives have been saved from the service.
The center said that it gets over 200 genuine phone calls each day, which is answered by experts. "We also get over 100 hoax calls," said Keshav Pradhan, a public health inspector at the center. He said that more hoax calls come from Ncell numbers. "They start to get racy when they hear female voice," he added. Over 4,500 people have already received medical advices from the center.
