In the message, he stated, "While earthquakes are a natural disaster, increasing urbanization every year has heightened seismic risks. Although we cannot prevent earthquakes, we can protect ourselves from the potential risks they pose. Nepal's geographic location, structure and human-made physical infrastructure are the primary reasons for our vulnerability to seismic hazards. Given the high risk of natural disasters in our country, raising public awareness on effective measures for earthquake risk reduction and protective actions are equally essential. I urge concerned authorities to address this issue."
The President noted that the National Reconstruction Authority has completed the majority of the reconstruction work for physical structures damaged by the earthquake, and the remaining tasks have been handed over to the respective bodies. He expressed satisfaction that the rebuilt structures reflect our cultural identity and incorporate earthquake-resistant technologies. He also thanked everyone who contributed directly and indirectly to the reconstruction and restoration efforts.
President Paudel also hoped that Earthquake Memorial Day would inspire all citizens to work together on earthquake risk reduction, reconstruction, and restoration efforts, as natural disasters pose a threat to everyone.
