KATHMANDU, Feb 24: A meeting of top leaders of major political parties and President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav held at latter’s official residence, Shital Niwas to seek a way out of the current political impasse in the country, ended inconclusively on Thursday morning.

The meeting of top leaders of UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML and United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) had to be halted as UML leaders left for their central committee meeting. The meeting will resume at 3 pm today.[break]

The president has been holding discussions with top leaders of political parties in a bid to help the parties reach an understanding to end the prolonged political crisis in the country.

On Wednesday, President Yadav had held separate parleys with UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, NC President Sushil Koirala, CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal, CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya, Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Democratic Chairman Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar and Tarai-Madhes Democratic Party Chairman Mahantha Thakur.

Recently, UCPN (Maoist) has proposed to form an election government under the leadership of sitting chief justice. But major opposition parties—NC and CPN-UML—have rejected the proposal.
