The rally against child abuse that happens domestically was attended by volunteers of Antardristi, students from Shree Navayug Madhyamik Vidhyalaya and pedestrians. [break]
“We wanted to conduct this rally on the World Environment day because we wanted to celebrate it in a different way,” said Binita Adhikari, the founder of Antardristi. “We wanted to spread awareness about child abuse in domestic households and get people to understand the need to cleanse ourselves socially as well,” she added.
The participants of the rally displayed placards and distributed stickers with messages against child-abuse as well. Antardristi has been working with child-abuse victims and has been providing them with the traumatic counseling as well.
Antardristi has been running residential centers at Pokhara and Hetauda, which 27 children currently, to help them recover. Antardristi has planned similar rallies for a month, the next one scheduled for Friday at Thamel.
“I was just passing by when I saw this rally,” said Manish Bhatt, 18, a high-school science student at St. Xavier’s College, Maitighar. “I asked the people what it was about and I figured child-abuse as very relevant social problem that needed support, so I decided to join in. The rally is for a very relevant issue and I figured it was worth my time. Problems like these don’t tend to get resolved easily, it takes times and rallies likes these are the perfect way to get people informed of the social evils that lurk underneath,” he informed.
