In the latest incident, that took place Tuesday night, a girl was killed in cold blood, presumably after rape. Police have no clue about the identity of the dead body found in an irrigation canal in Kobarsayan VDC-5 on Wednesday. According to police, identification was difficult as 90 percent of the body is charred. [break]
After making initial investigations, police suspect that following the rape the girl´s body might have been doused in petrol and burnt so that she would not be recognized. “We have not received any information on any missing girl or abduction and no one has contacted us regarding the body,” said DSP Shyam Singh Chaudhari.
The body of the girl of around 16 has been kept at Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital in Rajbiraj. However, locals of the VDC said the girl might be from another place as no local girl has been reported missing recently.
“If the girl was from around this place, someone might have recognized the body. The family of the missing girl might have come into contact by now,” said Ugrakant Jha of Sakarpura VDC.
Earlier, a seven-year-old girl from Bakaduwa-9 was raped by a neighbor on May 13. According to the victim´s father, instead of accepting a report about the rape that he had gone to the police station to file, the police took him into custody for three days.
Kushum Acharya, a women´s rights activist in the district, complained about police behavior and attitude toward women and their security.
In yet another incident, that took place in the first week of May, two youths--Dilip Baniya, 17, of Nargho-4 and Sanjiv Kumar Yadav, 18, of Banainiya-6 were arrested on the charge of gang-raping a woman in Nargo VDC.
Similarly a 10-year-old girl from Kanchanpur VDC was allegedly raped by Harendra Dev, a health worker who has been on the lam since. The girl had gone to Dev´s shop to buy some tobacco.
