KATHMANDU, Aug 27: Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL).
He made the announcement on Wednesday through a social media post, writing: “Today is a special day and, hence, a special beginning. They say every ending has a new start. My time as an IPL cricketer comes to a close today, but my time as an explorer of the game across various leagues begins now. I would like to thank all the franchises for the wonderful memories and relationships over the years, and most importantly for everything they have given me until now. I look forward to enjoying and making the most of what lies ahead.”
Ashwin to debut in county cricket
Ashwin last played in the 2025 IPL season for Chennai Super Kings, where he took 7 wickets and scored 33 runs in 9 matches.
Over the course of his IPL career, Ashwin represented five teams: Punjab Kings, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, and Rising Pune Supergiant.
In total, he played 221 IPL matches, claiming 187 wickets.
