Shikhar Insurance organized a press conference on Monday and informed the media that the tournament will be played over 18 holes in stableford format with ¾ handicap allowance. [break]
According to Deepak Acharya, senior golf director of the club, about 100 golfers including men, women, senior and junior golfers will vie for the title.
The winner, runner-up, ladies´ winner, ladies´ runner-up, senior winner, best gross, junior winner will receive trophies and other prizes. There are also awards for the longest drive, closest to the pin and most birdies.
"As we are working in the field of insurance, we have a motto of ´healthy life´. We want to promote sports and we are organizing the golf event as a stepping stone," said Dip Prakash Pandey, the chief executive officer of Shikhar Insurance. "We are mainly targeting young executives of the corporate world for participation in the golfing event," he added.
Pandey also said the insurance company is planning to sponsor professional golf events from next year.
Acharya, who is also the general secretary of Nepal Professional Golfers Association, thanked Shikhar Insurance for sponsoring the golf event. "I hope the tournament will turn into a mega event in future," said Acharya.
Marketing Manager of Shikhar Insurance Bhupal Bhakta Shrestha said the golf event is also being organized to create awareness about insurance.
