KATHMANDU, April 29: Chief District Officer (CDO) of Sindhupalchowk has fled the district at a time when quake-hit victims are caling for rescue and relief materials.

It is learnt that CDO Krishna Prasad Gyawali left for Kathmandu while quake-hit victims are crying for help and complaining of not receiving timely relief materials.

A ministerial level meeting is taking place to mull over the transfer of CDO Gyawali for the alleged dereliction of duty.

Sindhupalchowk is the hardest-hit district where over 15,00 people have been killed by the devastating earthquake. The number of deaths might go even larger as the latest update is yet to arrive.

Considering that CDO's flee amidst a clarion call for rescue and relief materials by the quake-hit victims is a sheer dereliction of duty, Home Ministry is mulling action against him.

Denying allegation that he escaped from his duties and responsibly, CDO Gyawali said that the government's failure to provide timely relief materials to Sindhupalchowk victims is the reason why he left for Kathmandu.

He also maintained that he will not resume his duty until the government provides sufficient relief materials for the victims.
