Solar panels of 30 watt capacity were distributed to eight injured people of Bishalapur, Udayapur, Rodideval and Gajur VDCs. Nineteen families of those who died in leopard attacks were also provided solar panels. "Lack of preys due to increase in poaching may have caused leopards to attack humans," said Chief District Officer Lila Dhar Aadhikari, speaking at a function held on Sunday.
"Locals need to cooperate with us to conserve the forest areas and minimize the risks," he added. District Forest Officer Kedar Baral said the main reason for the distribution of solar panels was to avoid leopard attacks during night times. "We would be less frightened of leopards if there was light," said Paru Devi Sarki of Bishalapur-3, a leopard victim. Meanwhile, the DFO has also launched awareness raising campaigns in the affected villages, including Kulau and Sharmali VDCs.
