Twenty-eight-year-old Surendra Magar killed his father Dil Bahadur by attacking him with a khukuri last night, said District Police Office, Sankhuwasabha.
The killer son has been arrested while the body of the father has been taken to district hospital for a post mortem.
Meanwhile, a person from Chisapani of Namdum VDC-8 of Kavre district has mistakenly fired at his relative while targeting a dog.
Dhan Bahadur Shanglo of Nagarkot-4 was shot at by his relative Ganesh Tamang, 51, with a homemade pistol, District Police Office said.
Shango is brother-in-law of Tamang.
Although people made attempts to conceal the incident, it came into light after the doctor at B and B Hospital, Lalitpur, inquired about the incident while undergoing treatment of the injured Shango.
Shang, who sustained injuries to his leg, is out of danger.
