Southsiders, Bhanimandal win

KATHMANDU, July 18: Southsiders and Bhanimandal won their respective matches on Monday in men´s section while Prime emerged victorious in women´s section in the Morgan Cup Ninth Women´s and 10th Men´s National Basketball Championship under way at the covered hall of the Dasharath Stadium.



Southsiders beat Xavier International 68-45 and Bhanimandal registered a hard-fought 75-66 win over National Campus.[break]



In the course of beating Xavier, Southsiders led all the other quarters other than playing a 11-11 draw in the third. Southsiders took the first and second quarters 17-6, 19-12 and the fourth 21-16. Wisdom Pandey topscored with 13 points for Southsiders.



In another competitive match of the day, a 19-point lead in the fourth quarter proved vital in Bhanimandal´s victory as the first and third quarters had ended in draws with scores of 10-10 and 17-17 respectively. Bhanimandal had conceded the second quarter 24-14, but it made a dramatic comeback to take the last quarter 34-15 for victory. Utsav Chand contributed the highest 34 points for the winning side.



Likewise, Goldengate thrashed Cambridge 97-53. Except for a 15-15 draw in the third quarter, Golden Gate led all the other quarters 22-17, 25-13, 35-8 respectively. Sushil Gurung contributed 21 points for the winning team.



Under girls´ section, defending champion Prime thumped Happy Children Club (HCC) 52-18 winning all four quarters. Deepika Uprety contributed the highest 14 points for Prime. Prime took the four quarters 9-0, 16-11, 12-0, 15-7 respectively.



On Sunday, NASA had thrashed Premier 70-27 in girl´s section riding on 21 points from Sadina Shrestha.
