Only one-third of the course has been completed in major subjects including science and mathematics. Students are braced to appear in the SLC exam without guidance from teachers. The students are bearing the brunt of the government's decision to approve leave for the teachers without finding alternative teachers. Hence, the students are left to prepare by themselves for the upcoming SLC, which is scheduled to start on March 31.
Bal Mandal Higher Secondary School (HSS) in Jasbire has been left without science and math teachers since September. After the teacher -- Devendra Poudel -- quit his job, students appearing for the board exams have been deprived of properly learning these two major subjects.
"Failure of the school's principal to re-appoint another teacher has created problems for the students. We cannot expect students to perform well in the SLC as there is no teacher for these difficult subjects. Not even half of the course has been completed," said Tikanath Poudel, a school teacher.
The school has been requesting the District Education Office (DEO) to appoint temporary teacher for two months, informed Poudel. But no teacher has been appointed yet.
Similarly, Ektappa-based Janakalyan High School is going through the same problem. The school has vacant post for mathematics and science subjects since the past three months.
"There are 45 students appearing for the SLC exams. But lack of teachers for these important subjects have given them difficult time," said Pancha Yonghang, chairman of the school.
Likewise, 134 tenth graders of Bhanu Bhakta HSS, Deumai Municipality, are also in the same situation in lack of teachers since the past two months.
According to the DEO, students in the district mostly fail in mathematics and science. Schools in the district are worried that more will fail this time as students are ill-prepared in lack of teachers.
